Dear {{{first}}}, WATER SUPPLY UPDATE With only a few days until our Spring golfing season starts, we’ve received some unfortunate updates on our water supply. Kyalami Country Club’s main source of irrigation water supply is treated effluent water from Kelvin Power Station, which enters our course via an offtake from the pipeline between Kelvin Power Station and COJ’s water treatment plant at Northern Farm at the 3rd hole, which is stored in the dams on 8 and 17, where we irrigate the course from. A meeting was requested by the Station’s representatives to inform us that we will be billed for the usage of water at a nominated fee per Kiloliter, as from the 1st of September 2023. This is because COJ, who supplies water to Kelvin Power Station, has started billing Kelvin Power. Sadly, this expense is unforeseen and very costly as in summer months, we can put down 1.2 million liters per day. The rain supplements our need to irrigate through months, December to May, which we utilize to irrigate the trees and greens during winter months. To minimize the negative impact that this will have on the club’s finances, we are informing our members and visitors that a R20 water levy will be imposed from 1 September 2023 for every round of golf played at Kyalami Country Club. It will be applicable to all players, including Visitors and Golf Days who plays 9 or 18 holes. The category of membership, including prepaid rounds are not exempted from this levy. Both the NPC Board and the KCC Governing Body unanimously support the implementation of this levy. At the same time, the NPC is investigating many supplemental options available to reduce and, ultimately, remove our dependence on the Kelvin water and sustain the course for the long term. The involvement of professionals and testing of old boreholes are under way, and will certainly implement quick wins, such as desilting of dams to increase storage capacity. The current water situation has an immediate financial and appearance impact on our club, and we will find solutions that will secure our club’s future. We trust that we can count on your support of the water levy and if you have any questions, please feel free to speak to me, I will be happy to discuss any questions you might have.
