From the Shed.
Greetings to all our members and a warm welcome to Thinus Keller our new GM who has taken over from Darryl Williams and I am sure Thinus is going to fit in well with us at Kyalami, we look forward to all the new ideas for the club. Thank you Darryl for your input you gave to the operation and it can be seen all over the Course and Clubhouse.
We are already experiencing warm temperatures and I am sure that there is still a cold spell ahead of us, but we are gearing up for a good season. We have achieved a lot on the course the last few months and hope to carry on improving on what we currently have.
I attended our monthly greenkeepers meeting held at Krugersdorp golf club and the guest speaker Johan Van Vuuren spoke about BMP (Best Management Practices) and highlighted the importance of reintroducing natural areas to the golf course which is a new trend in the USA and Europe.
The main aim is focused on the pollinators which will in turn attract the other species. We have a wealth of bird life on the course, and this will only benefit from these areas. I will look at creating areas suitable to our highveld conditions and introduce flowering shrubs and small trees that are hardy and can tolerate the harsh highveld winters.
On the course we are looking good and still quite green in places which is not a bad thing as our transition to summer will not be difficult and should be quick. We have upgraded the pumphouse on the 17th dam and this will and has already helped with our water supply issues to the golf course irrigation system.
More modern pumps which have more efficient power usage will help us too. I look forward to seeing you on the course and thank you to everyone who gives us the thumbs up and compliments the staff on their good work.
