Dear Members,

I have been at Kyalami Country Club for more than 100 days. I think its important for me to share my feedback with you as it is positive. The first 30 days were easy. The next 30 days were more difficult. The following 30 days were tough. I have learned so much about the club in a short period. Luckily, knowledge is power.

Having been involved at many different clubs I am happy to say the best thing about KCC is YOU, the membership. The people are friendly and supportive. We have many different cultures and the diversity works. I have seen respect for each other and to sum up my opinion about the membership in a couple of words. Loyal and Positive.

However, everything is not amazing at the club. The course and clubhouse facilities need maintenance and upgrades. Everyone is aware of this and unfortunately it cannot happen overnight. For the past two years upgrades and maintenance have been done and it will always be ongoing. It will take some years to get the club up to the standard that it should be. I have worked at some world class courses and facilities, money plays a part in having the best, however you cannot buy a club culture.

We are nearing the end of the year and I am very positive about the direction the club is heading into. We will be sending out the Member Subscriptions on 15 November and with everyone’s support 2023 will be another good year.

The current economy is difficult, and every business is affected.  Loadshedding and the cost of diesel, electricity and water has reached an all-time high and smaller businesses have seen their bottom line being put under immense pressure.  Every supplier is sending their increases for next year and in some cases we looking at 20%.

We are well on our way to reach close to 50 000 rounds for the year. Golf days and functions are coming in and we look forward to close the year off on a positive note. The rain we received last week is so welcome and you can see the course transforming daily. I personally cannot wait to play the new tee box on the 14th hole! What a beauty.

Our waiter training is ongoing, I have received good feedback thus far. Daily training in the kitchen will help with our consistency. The club is busy and we are fortunate to be hosting big events that displays KCC to the entire South Africa and beyond.

There is no shadow of a doubt that Summer has arrived and wow has it arrived hard. With the warmer temps come the storms and the inevitable lightning delays. During this period we appeal to members to please obey the siren and stop playing once the siren has sounded. Once the siren has been rung it is imperative that you cease play immediately, playing after the siren will result in being DQ’d.

Saturday was the final round of the Mid AM season and both teams were at home, the weather had the final say in the A Team game and despite losing to Glenvista they played well enough in the season to remain in the top flight division. Despite a valiant effort and a season marred by weather delays and close calls our B Team will compete in the C Division next year. Well played to everyone who pulled on a Kyalami shirt and represented our club in 2022!

We have mentioned previously that we are honored to be hosting the 2022 CGGU Strokeplay Championship on the 11th, 12th and 13th of November. The course will be closed for these 3 days to golfers however spectators are welcome. CGGU have given us the course back for the afternoon of Sunday the 13th so tee times for this day will be released shortly.

Reciprocity is being arranged by CGGU and will be communicated to members in due course.

From the Shed.

Greetings to all , what a change I have noticed in the course over the last few days since our first rains which were welcomed with open arms. However along with the rain came a flush of new growth and it has brought on a whole lot of new challenges.

Unfortunately, our league games were a bit disappointing, and the greens were not at there best, we could not predict the response to the rains and unfortunately, we had slow greens for the weekend. This has been rectified and the greens were treated accordingly, and we should have good greens again.

Although it can be said there is good coverage on the greens. With that been said the course will only improve as we get more rain and start experiencing regular down pours. On the brighter side we have a new Tee box at the 14th ( yes, the skew one …….lol) which has been aligned properly, levelled and sodded with kikuyu sods. A new line of irrigation was also added this will greatly improve the tee.

The purpose of this tee will be to accommodate the golf days in the week and take pressure off the main tee. Furthermore, on the to-do list was the 14th ladies tee and the front portion of the 17th tee has also been levelled. Thank you to all those who offer support and are complimentary of the course.

Kyalami Ladies Section hosted the Inter Club Challenge with a capacity field and managed to retain the trophy and honor of winning the event. Well done to Noma Migogo, Ashley Bester, Ruzanne Blyth and Gwen James on a superb round. Close runners up was a team from Royal followed by Waterkloof.

The fantastic spirit is evident with 25 players participating in the Captains Tour to Clarens.  It's also great to see the ladies at the weekly Wednesday events where IPS, Medal and Putt and 3 Ball Alliances are played.
